Rated “E” for everyone, and offering a fun, learning platform, Prepositions 1 is among the newest apps for kids offered by Fun4Learning, an Android app development company that specializes in learning games for children, particularly ones that emphasize English language and grammar skills.
Kids Grammer Prepositions 1 Premise
The premise of the game is tracking a butterfly around a room and helping “Q-cat”, the main character, find and catch the butterfly. The premise is fun for younger kids but may not be challenging enough for older kids. In other words, the game may capture and maintain the attention of children between the ages of 3 and 8 years but may not be sufficiently challenging to engage children older than 7 or 8 years of age.
Target Audience of Prepositions 1
Though Prepositions 1 is a simple game, designed with younger children in mind, it can be a powerful learning tool for kids beginning to master grammar rules – specifically the range of preposition and their appropriate usage within the English language.
Marketed as appropriate for kids age 3 and up, and designated as best suited for children between the ages of 3 and 12, Kids Grammar Prepositions 1 is likely most effective for promoting learning in the younger age category of 3 to 8 years of age.
Methods and Goals of Prepositions 1
Children learn best through fun, interactive methods. With this in mind, Fun4Learning produces a number of interactive games geared specifically for children. Prepositions 1 takes an interactive approach to the teaching of basic prepositions and their proper use in the English language.
Features of Prepositions 1
Prepositions 1 features two modes: Learn and Practice. Learn mode allows kids to trace the path of the butterfly through the room, learning the specific place inside the room and the associated preposition. Learn mode additionally lets kids understand that particular places or locations consistently require the use of the same prepositions for appropriately assigning the concept of place or location.
Practice mode on the other hand, requires kids to choose the correct preposition for describing the location or place of the butterfly in the game.
The game additionally features a real human voice teaching prepositions, including correct pronunciation, and simple but fun graphics that keep the attention of kids, particularly those in the younger age categories.
Prepositions 1 Platform Requirements
Designed for use with Android devices, Prepositions 1 is compatible with tablets and phones, including the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Nexus 7, and any other device operating Android 2.2 and up.
Prepositions 1’s Overall Impression
Fun4Learning, the makers of Prepositions 1, promotes the learning game as appropriate for children ages 3 and up, but it really is a game that best suited for kids between 4.5 and 6 or 7 years of age. That’s because it deals mostly with the very basic prepositions – those that kids between 4 and 7 years of age are learning anyway. Beyond age 7, most kids have those basic prepositions mastered.
Another thing that makes the game best suited for younger kids is its basic platform. While it’s attractive in its overall appearance and presentation, the graphics are fairly simple and probably won’t maintain the attention of older kids for very long as are result.
The game can certainly help kids achieve the learning goals the game sets out to promote, especially for children between ages 4 and 7. Once those goals are achieved, the game doesn’t hold most kids’ interest any longer. However, as Prepositions 1 is offered at such an affordable price, it’s hard to argue that the fun, simple, learning methods promoted through the game aren’t worth it.
